CUTTING SERVICE POLICY

GD Building Supplies

Version 1.0
Effective Date: 19 August 2026

Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in this Policy is intended to exclude, restrict or modify any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). Where the ACL applies and conflicts with this Policy, the ACL prevails.

Complimentary Rough Cutting Service

GD Building Supplies may, at its discretion, provide a complimentary rough cutting service for selected products purchased from GD. This service is provided as a customer convenience only.

IMPORTANT

The GD cutting service is not a precision cutting, fabrication, machining or installation service. Unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing, GD staff are not engaged to perform the work of the customer’s installer, tiler, fabricator or other qualified tradesperson.

2.1 Rough Cut Only

Where GD agrees to cut a product:

  • the cut is a rough cut only;
  • the customer must provide the requested rough-cut dimension;
  • GD does not guarantee millimetre-perfect accuracy;
  • GD does not guarantee squareness, finished appearance, flush alignment or installation-ready dimensions;
  • blade thickness, equipment limitations, product movement, manufacturing tolerances and normal human measurement variance may affect the finished cut;
  • all final trimming, fitting and adjustment must be completed on site by the installer.

No particular cutting tolerance is guaranteed unless GD expressly agrees to that tolerance in writing before the product is cut.

2.2 Final Installation Dimensions

Customers must not rely on GD’s rough cutting service as the final installation measurement. Site conditions may vary and can include:

  • walls that are not straight or square;
  • waterproofing thickness;
  • tile thickness;
  • adhesive thickness;
  • expansion allowances;
  • end caps;
  • joins;
  • product-specific tolerances;
  • falls and drainage requirements;
  • installer preferences; and
  • manufacturer installation requirements.

These matters must be checked by the person responsible for installation.

2.3 Recommended Cutting Allowance

For channel drains, strip drains, trims, profiles and other products requiring final on-site fitting, GD recommends that the customer allow at least 50 mm additional length beyond the anticipated final installed length when requesting a store rough cut.

EXAMPLE

Required finished installation length: 1,900 mm

Recommended GD rough-cut request: approximately 1,950 mm

The installer should then measure actual site conditions and make the final precision cut.

The 50 mm allowance is a GD risk-control recommendation and is not a manufacturer specification or Australian Standard unless separately stated by the relevant manufacturer.

2.4 Channel Drains, Strip Drains and Tile Insert Trays

Channel drains and strip drains may contain multiple components with different factory dimensions or installation allowances, including:

  • bottom trays;
  • tile insert top trays;
  • grates;
  • end caps;
  • joiners; and
  • outlet components.

GD does not provide final fabrication or precision matching of these components unless expressly agreed in writing. In particular, GD does not guarantee:

  • top tray and bottom tray flush alignment;
  • identical component lengths;
  • final end-cap clearances;
  • final grate removal clearances;
  • millimetre-perfect final dimensions; or
  • installation-ready finished dimensions.

Where a top insert, grate or other component requires adjustment relative to the bottom channel, that adjustment is the responsibility of the installer and must be completed in accordance with the relevant manufacturer’s installation instructions.

2.5 Customer Confirmation Before Cutting

Before a product is cut, the customer is responsible for confirming:

  1. the product;
  2. the quantity;
  3. the requested rough-cut length; and
  4. that the customer understands the service is a rough cut only.

Once cutting has commenced, the cut cannot be reversed.

2.6 Returns of Cut Products

Products cut, drilled, modified or altered at the customer’s request are not eligible for change-of-mind refund or exchange. This includes circumstances where the customer:

  • provided the wrong measurement;
  • later changes the required measurement;
  • no longer requires the product;
  • changes the project design;
  • ordered too much;
  • selected the wrong item;
  • expected a precision finished cut when only a rough cut was requested or provided; or
  • requires additional trimming to achieve final installation.

This does not affect any rights the customer may have under the Australian Consumer Law where the product or cutting service fails to meet an applicable consumer guarantee.

2.7 GD’s Right to Refuse Cutting

GD may refuse to perform a cut where:

  • the requested cut cannot be performed safely;
  • the requested tolerance cannot reasonably be achieved;
  • the product may be damaged;
  • the cut requires specialist fabrication equipment;
  • the customer requires a precision or installation-ready result;
  • the cut would conflict with manufacturer instructions;
  • the requested work is outside the capability of store equipment or staff; or
  • GD considers it unsafe or inappropriate to perform the requested work.

SERVICE PRINCIPLE

GD would rather decline a cutting request than promise a result that cannot reasonably be guaranteed.
